Jazz Vibes EP13

This installment in the Jazz Vibes digital EP series features two brand new jazz-tinged offerings from Ian Preece.

Ian began producing music back in 1994 at the tender age of 18 under the name ‘Solar Budd’ for Megadogs ‘Planet Dog Records’. Since then he has recorded under various guises, producing house and electronic funk. As well as the tracks featured here, he also has a standout disco-house hi-bred track 'Superfuzz' featured on the upcoming 'Disco Vibes album & 12" sampler, with another track 'Soulboy' in the pipeline for a digital release in the 'Disco Vibes EP series, so you may have figured out were big fans of this undersung producers talents. With the high standards already set here, we're looking forward to hearing the nu-jazz/ funk album he's currently working on to be released early in the new year.

The first track 'Natural Conditions' is a sublime slice of evocative, soulful music that pleasingly blurs the boundaries between drum & bass, nu-jazz and chillout. Originally slated for releas e on Bukem's Good Looking label (their loss is our gain). This really is a lovely piece combining evocative rhodes chords, soothing pads, a hooky bass line with jazzy trumpet and spoken word samples into a classy, stylish soundscape.

'In Time' is a styli sh downtempo groover with its roots firmly in 70's jazz-funk, it has a real live feel with dynamic drums, deep bass & a catchy hook underpinning atmopspheric synths & some sublime rhodes playing. Superb.p{

Two great pieces of modern jazz by Iain Preece on the excellent Mettle Music label, who for me are the leaders in this sort of sound, they constantly turn out quality music oozing jazz whether it be mixed with house or just pure jazz, keeping it real.

'In Time' is a quality piece of downtempo jazz fusion which makes you feel like summer isn't over yet, lovely beats mixed with blissfull rhodes guitar and bass, i can imagine a full jazz band playing as i listen. 'Natural Conditions' is a more energetic groove with the same blissfull summer feel, again with a great live sound, but with busy shuffling jazz drums, the production is great on these two releases, dynamic and sweet. A nother great release from Mettle Music.
